Last week I had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with the wonderful Sandra and Alex for their pre-wedding shoot — and what a day it was! As a wedding photographer at Smooth Pictures, I’m lucky enough to explore some pretty spectacular places, but this session genuinely felt like a little adventure of its own.
Sunrise Magic in Whitby
We kicked things off bright and early on the beautiful Whitby coastline. The weather must have known we were coming because it treated us to a calm, golden morning — perfect for photography and even better for getting into that pre-wedding excitement.
Our first stop was the famous Whitby pier. With the sea shimmering and the town slowly waking up behind us, we captured some stunning moments full of laughter, wind-tousled hair, and that gorgeous early-morning glow.
From there, we took on the legendary 199 steps — yes, all of them! Sandra and Alex powered through like absolute champions, and the reward at the top was more than worth it. The views stretching out over Whitby, with the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey standing proudly behind them, made the perfect backdrop. If romance had a location, that might just be it.
An Afternoon Escape to York
After Whitby worked its magic, we headed inland to the incredible city of York. Our first stop: the peaceful and picturesque Museum Gardens. Between the ancient ruins, the autumn leaves, and the soft afternoon light, we fell into a rhythm of natural, relaxed photos that showed exactly why these two are such a perfect match.
But the real showstopper came after dark.
As evening settled in, we made our way to the iconic York Minster, which at night looks nothing short of spectacular. The dramatic lighting, the towering architecture, and Sandra and Alex wrapped up warm, sharing a quiet moment beneath it all — it made for some truly unforgettable shots.
A Day to Remember
From cliffs and cobbles to gardens and glowing cathedral lights, the whole day felt like a storybook unfolding, and I couldn’t imagine a more brilliant couple to share it with.
Sandra and Alex, thank you for the laughs, the energy, and the epic stair-climbing skills. I can’t wait to capture your big day next!
