An Amazing Easter Wedding in York
This Easter, I had the absolute pleasure (and genuine privilege) of photographing the wedding of Miranda and Howard in the stunning city of York—and honestly, it was one of those days that reminds you exactly why you love what you do.
York is always a fantastic backdrop for a wedding. With its historic charm, beautiful architecture, and lively atmosphere, it never disappoints—and on Easter Saturday, it was absolutely buzzing. From the very start, there was a sense that this wasn’t going to be just any ordinary wedding day.
A Morning Full of Excitement
The day began with preparations, and as any wedding photographer will tell you, this is often where some of the most natural and meaningful moments happen. There’s a lovely mix of excitement, nerves, laughter, and the occasional “where did I put that?” panic.
Miranda and her bridal party were in great spirits. The room was filled with energy—music playing, glasses clinking, and plenty of laughter. I captured some beautiful, relaxed portraits of the morning, along with those all-important detail shots: the dress hanging perfectly, the shoes waiting patiently, and all the little touches that had clearly been chosen with care.
The bridesmaids definitely deserve a mention—not only did they look incredible, but at one point they were practising their aisle walk with a level of focus you’d expect from a West End rehearsal… followed immediately by laughter when it didn’t quite go to plan. Those are the moments that make a wedding story feel real.
The Ceremony at York Registry Office
Soon it was time to make our way to York Registry Office for the ceremony.
There’s something wonderfully intimate about a registry office wedding. It strips everything back to what truly matters, and this ceremony was no exception. Howard was already there, waiting patiently—and you could see the emotion written all over his face. That quiet anticipation just before the bride arrives is always a powerful moment, and this one was no different.
When Miranda entered, the whole room seemed to pause for a second. It was a beautiful, genuine moment—no fuss, no over-the-top theatrics, just two people completely present and ready to say “I do.”
The ceremony itself was smooth, heartfelt, and full of warmth. Lots of smiles, a few emotional glances, and just the right amount of laughter to keep things perfectly balanced.
Confetti, Cheers, and a City Celebration
After the ceremony, we stepped outside into the gardens for what turned out to be a brilliant confetti moment. Everything came together perfectly—the light, the timing, and the enthusiasm from guests (always important when it comes to confetti!).
We followed that with family and group photographs, capturing those important combinations while everyone was still together and in high spirits.
Then came one of the most memorable parts of the entire day.
We made our way as a group through York—across the beautiful Museum Gardens and into the city centre—heading towards The Ivy York. Now, you might expect a pleasant walk… but what we got was something far more special.
Because it was Easter Saturday, the city was packed. And as we walked through, something brilliant happened—people started noticing. Then reacting. Then fully joining in.
We had strangers clapping, cheering, smiling, waving… even drivers beeping their horns in celebration. At one point, it genuinely felt like the entire city had decided to celebrate Miranda and Howard’s wedding with them. It created such an incredible atmosphere—completely unplanned and totally unforgettable.
Celebrations at The Ivy
Arriving at The Ivy felt like stepping into a different pace—elegant, stylish, and the perfect setting to continue the celebrations.
Inside, the mood shifted into something a little more relaxed but no less joyful. Guests settled in, drinks were flowing, and the room was filled with conversation and laughter.
The speeches were a real highlight—funny, heartfelt, and at times just a little bit cheeky (as all good wedding speeches should be). There were plenty of toasts, lots of smiles, and a few emotional moments that reminded everyone exactly what the day was all about.
It was one of those parts of the day where you can take a breath, look around, and really appreciate the people who are there to celebrate with you.
An Unforgettable Evening at Impossible
Just when you might think the day couldn’t offer any more, we moved on to Impossible York—and this is where things went up another level.
The setting was perfect for an evening celebration, and it didn’t take long for the energy to build. Miranda and Howard’s first dance was fantastic—one of those moments where everything else fades away for a few minutes.
And then… the party began.
The dance floor filled quickly, the music kept everyone moving, and the atmosphere was nothing short of electric. From big dance moves to slightly questionable ones (no names mentioned!), it was a brilliant way to end the day.
A Day to Remember
Looking back, this wedding had everything—emotion, laughter, beautiful moments, and a few unexpected surprises along the way.
From the relaxed and joyful morning preparations, to the heartfelt ceremony at York Registry Office, the incredible walk through a cheering city, the elegance of The Ivy, and the high-energy celebration at Impossible—it was a day that truly had it all.
Miranda and Howard, thank you for trusting me to capture your wedding. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of such an amazing day, and I wish you both a lifetime filled with just as much happiness, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
And if every wedding could come with a city-wide cheer squad… well, I certainly wouldn’t complain.
